Greek gyros is among World’s 15 Best Drunk Foods, according to blogger Andrew John Virtue Dobson who in dobbernationloves.com aims to inspire people to “eat well, travel a lot and live better.”
Dobson writes that after traveling to over 80 countries he has concluded that “the world’s most famous dishes to enjoy drunk typically feature a contrast of crunch and munch, sweet meets sour, salty and sweet. When you load up on carbs, fat, sugar and salt and you’ll find your mug smug whether you find yourself in Toronto or Timbuktu.”
Especially about gyros, he mentions that it is the “go-to street food for night hawks in Greece. The ubiquitous wrap is made of meat cooked on a vertical rotisserie (beef, veal, mutton, pork or chicken) and usually served in a pita with tomato, onion and tzatziki sauce. A perfect grab-and-go when you find yourself on the isle of Mykonos zig-zagging back to your hotel at 3am!“
