Ninety-five percent of production of fish farming companies operating in the Porto Koufo region in Chalkidiki for more than a decade is exported to foreign markets, taking advantage of very favourable climate conditions prevailing in the region, producing excellent quality fish, Costas Gioutikas, vice-regional head of growth and environemnt in Central Macedonia Prefect told ANA on Tuesday.
He added that exports of mussel from Thermaikos Gulf and Pieria were also increasing, however, he noted that Southern Greece remained the leader in fish farming taking advantage of better climate conditions prevailing in the region. Two companies operate in the region with a production capacity of 3,470 tons annually. Production focuses on sea bream, sea buckthorn, etc.
