Food-For-Good Festival in Kalamaria Thessaloniki a big hit

The Canadian table at the annual ethnic Food-for-Good Festival in Kalamaria, Thessaloniki was a huge success this year, thanks to an overwhelming number of volunteers of all ages, who came out to assist.

The festival, which is hosted by the Women of the Five Continents, was held on June 10 at Plaz Aretsou.

Canadians offered exactly 164 mouth-watering servings of a combo of various meatballs and salads.

As it turns out, the meatballs with sauces were a definite treat, as well as spicy apple chutney, which was served with the sauce-less meatballs. The salad bar was ‘cleaned out’, and the few trays of meatballs that were left were donated to the Children’s Village in Filiro.

There were 31 countries that participated in this year’s festival, some of which also featured song and dance numbers on stage.

Even though approximately 1,600 food-and-drink tickets were sold, the attendance was even larger.

All proceeds from the festival went to Children’s Village Filiro and after expenses and including €2,000 ($2,317) in donations of goods from Masoutis and Elinika Market, the total that went to the charity was nearly €19,000.
