Lower VAT to reduce food price in Greece

A reduction of VAT on all foods to 13 percent, down from 24 percent for many foodstuffs at present, is expected to bring a significant drop in the household basket of goods price, ANA reports.

The basic consumer goods for which the VAT rate is to be reduced from 24 percent to 13 percent are the following: Coffee, cocoa, tea, chamomile, sugar, salt, vinegar, spices, sausages, jams, chocolates, wafers, croissants, nuts, cans, snacks, cereals, sunflower oil, soybean oil, corn oil and vegetable fats.
