From Monday, March 24th, and for one week, the premises of the United Nations (UN) in Vienna will be flooded with the authentic flavors and aromas of Cretan Cuisine.
The action is carried out with the support of the Greek Embassy in Austria, within the framework of the initiative “Crete, Gastronomic Region of Europe 2026”, implemented by the Region of Crete in collaboration with the Educational – Developmental PLOIGOS and the participation of local organizations.
35 traditional dishes, 2,000 meals per day
As part of the Cretan Gastronomy Week, six distinguished chefs from the Chefs Club of Crete will present 35 characteristic dishes of the Cretan gastronomic tradition. Every day, 2,000 meals will be offered to UN officials and diplomats, giving them the opportunity to experience the taste and nutritional value of Cretan cuisine.
Promoting tourism and culture of Crete
In parallel with the gastronomic experience, specially designed spaces will host presentations on tourism and the culture of Crete, showcasing the island as a unique destination that combines culinary tradition, cultural heritage, and authentic experiences.
Crete as an International Center of Food Culture
Through this initiative, the Region of Crete promotes its vision of promoting the island as an International Center of Food Culture, utilizing its gastronomic wealth as a lever for sustainable development and strengthening its resilience in the international environment.
