The Oinoxenia Festival visits Athens at a cultural venue in Kalyvia

The “Oinoxenia” Festival celebrates 12 years of presence in the cultural events of Greece this year, having managed to establish itself as a beloved institution that promotes and showcases the destination of Aegialia and Kalavrita.

This year, the festival will take place between June 23 and July 2, aiming to attract the wine-loving public and visitors during a period of mild tourist traffic and to give a boost to the destination of Aegialia – Kalavrita.

The festival program is expected to be rich this year and full of performances, flavors, events, visits to landmarks, vineyards, historical monuments, tastings, music and endless walks on the beach of Aigio, the stone alleys of Kalavryta, and tours of the magnificent landscapes of the Aegialia Slopes.

A preview of the Wine Inns will be hosted on Saturday 24 between 19.00-22.00 and on Sunday 25 May between 12.00-15.00 by the cultural space Polytropon in Kalyvia Thorikou, sparked by the transfer of the very successful exhibition A Life Dedicated to Art by the creator Gavrilos Michalis to this year’s Wine Inns.

In this exhibition, Gavrilos Michalis presents a great collection of works of art that covers a creative career of 55 years, during which the artist and craftsman collaborated with the most important Greek creators.

The wine-loving and art-loving public will have the opportunity to see unique works by Alexis Akrithakis, Nikos Alexiou, Achilleas Apergi, Yannis Gaitis, Yannis Dimitrakis, Opis Zouni, Anny Kostopoulou, George Lazoga, George Lappas, Pavlos and Foula Sakeli, some of the most renowned Greek artists, with whom Gavrilos collaborated in the construction of the works and their exhibitions.
Through the exhibits, a micro-history of Art is revealed, revealing personal and heartfelt relationships with the artists, long-term collaborations and of course individual works, with a complex degree of difficulty.

The works of people of art are uniquely combined with the works of people of the countryside and the land, as in parallel with the art exhibition, visitors will get to know the destination of Aegialia through the Oinoxenia Festival and the wines of the member wineries: tastings of 7 labels from 7 wineries will transport wine lovers to the magical landscapes of Aegialia through the local varieties of the region, one of the most important wine-growing zones in Greece: Roditis, Lagorthi, Sideritis, Malagouzia, Moschato, Mavro Kalavritino and dry Mavrodaphne.

Within the fairy-tale garden of Polytropon, adorned with emblematic works of art and curated by Georgia Kousari, hostess and life partner of Gavrilos Michalis, with a glass of wine in hand, visitors will be informed about this year’s Wine Hostel program, its events, as well as suggestions for wine tourism experiences in nearby Aegialia and Kalavrita, unique destinations even for one-day getaways.

The Wine Hostel Quality Network, the Municipality of Aegialia, the Region of Western Greece, the Chamber of Achaia and together with the wineries of the Aegialia Slopes that are always at the forefront of the Festival, join forces and support this great organization of Achaia and the Northern Peloponnese. Important sponsors are companies in the wine industry as well as local companies that will be announced soon, along with the final program of this year’s festival.

  • This year’s event is under the support and auspices of the FedHATTA Federation and HATTA.
