Two interesting events are scheduled for August in Omolio of Larissa and in Elassona, expected to attract the attention of both locals and visitors. These festivals are the Corn and Kiwifruit Festival in Omolio and the Pie Festival in Elassona.
Corn and Kiwifruit Festival in Omolio
On August 2nd, the Corn and Kiwifruit Festival will take place in Omolio, Larissa, co-organized by the Municipality of Agia among others.
The event aims to promote and highlight corn and kiwifruit products, two of the most dynamic crops in the area.
Furthermore, the festival strengthens the unique identity of the region amid competition and opens opportunities for outreach by combining promotion with the area’s strong tourism appeal during the summer months.
Visitors will have the chance to learn about the nutritional value of these products and the various ways to consume them, enjoy dishes based on corn and kiwifruit, and participate in a variety of cultural activities for entertainment.
Omolio is of great interest to travelers and tourists, who combine their participation in cultural events with excursions into the rich natural and cultural landscape. The Pineios River flows through the area, creating a rich habitat for wild birds, ducks, geese, and fish-eating birds. There are also several caves nearby, adding to the area’s wild beauty — two notable ones are the “Dana” and “Barotrypa” caves. Also of interest is the nearby Megas Lakkos gorge, which Alexander the Great and his army crossed.
Pie Festival in Elassona
On August 10th, the 19th Pie Festival is planned to be held in Elassona, co-organized by the Women’s Association of Tsaritsani Elassona among others.
The event aims to showcase the region through its wonderful traditional pies.
During the festival, parallel cultural activities are scheduled, such as a music event that will take place in the courtyard of the village’s primary school.
For visitors, Elassona offers unique geophysical features, natural beauty, and a rich history. Cultural infrastructure includes the Cultural Center, Municipal Library, Natural History Museum, Philharmonic Orchestra, Traditional Dance School, Music School, Open Theater, and other points of interest that allow the area to provide a high quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
