Nine new Green Stars in Switzerland, two in the Netherlands: the sustainability distinction lives and reigns, despite its “low profile” and changes in its presentation
The MICHELIN Guide Switzerland 2025 ceremony, held in Lausanne on October 20, included a section on Green Stars, while the official Michelin guide for Switzerland confirms a total of 40 Green Star restaurants, nine of which are new.
The confusion arose because Michelin’s English article for Switzerland focused mainly on the “red” stars, without analyzing the Green Stars, while the full green list was published in a separate French-language article. This created the impression that they were “ignored”.
At the same time, there were changes to the presentation of the Green Stars on the website, however, restaurant pages still carry a clear “?toile Verte MICHELIN” marking on their profile. In addition to Switzerland on October 6, 2025, at the ceremony for the Netherlands we had 2 new Green Stars at “Konijnenvoer” in Arnhem and “Tres” in Rotterdam, reaching 23 in the country.
In addition, in the announcements of the countries that preceded in 2025, in Great Britain & Ireland (10/2, Glasgow) five new ones were added, in Florida, USA (17/4) two new ones, and in California, USA (25/6) two new ones. In Singapore (24/7) the distinction was maintained without new additions, in Vancouver, Canada (2/10) no Green Stars were awarded, while in Hungary (9/10) this year’s selection counts six Green Stars in total, with one new one for 2025.
The MICHELIN Green Star was established in 2020 as a parallel distinction with the aim of highlighting restaurants with excellent sustainability practices (origin of materials, seasonality, footprint, waste, recycling, transparency towards the customer).
The announcement of the MICHELIN Guide Athens 2025 is expected towards the end of November-December, without any official confirmation yet.
