The Regional Committee of the Region of Crete approved the program of actions for the promotion of agricultural products for 2026, with a total budget of 1,115,000 euros, with the aim of strengthening the local economy and highlighting the value of Cretan Nutrition at a national and international level.
According to the relevant decision, the program is part of the strategic plan for the development and prosperity of the island and emphasizes the support of producers at all stages of the production process, the promotion of agricultural products, the promotion of the hinterland and the strengthening of local entrepreneurship.
Promotion of Cretan Food and the identity of the island
The main objective of the program is to recognize and highlight the value and uniqueness of local products and Cretan Food, as elements that are inextricably linked to the identity of the island. The Region estimates that this strategy will strengthen the image of Crete internationally, with a positive impact on tourism, exports and consumption of local products and services.
The main axes of the program
The main axes of the program focus on promoting the quality, variety and uniqueness of Cretan agricultural products, Cretan Food and the hinterland, on organizing educational activities, workshops and conferences with the exchange of good practices and transfer of know-how, as well as on continuing the efforts to date to promote Cretan products, both in Greece and abroad.
The Region is proceeding with an updated annual plan, based on the evaluation of previous actions, emphasizing traditional and new markets, the uniqueness of the products, the importance of Cretan Nutrition, the specificity of the hinterland and its people, as well as new cultivation trends and techniques.
Actions and specialized programs for 2026
The action program for 2026 includes participation in agricultural product exhibitions, organization of business missions and invitations to buyers, production of promotional material and advertising actions, seminars and educational programs, as well as events for the transfer of know-how from Greece and abroad.
Particular emphasis is placed on the implementation of specialized actions within the framework of the Regional Planning for the Protection, Promotion and Promotion of the Extra Virgin Olive Oil “KRITI”, following its official recognition as a Protected Geographical Indication product. At the same time, a series of actions are planned for the declaration of Crete as a “European Gastronomic Region 2026”, which will further enhance the international visibility of the island and its products.
