A. Fiorentinos: Wine tourism as a pillar of sustainable development and extroversion of Greek tourism

On the occasion of World Wine Tourism Day, the Secretary General of the Hellenic Tourism Organization, Andreas Fiorentinos, visited the winery of the Sykiniotis (or Kantenasos) family in Mykonos, a place with a long tradition in the art of wine, land and hospitality.

Mr. Fiorentinos pointed out that wine tourism, like other alternative forms of tourism, constitute an important pillar for the strengthening and diversification of the Greek tourism product, as they enrich the visitor’s experience, highlight the culture and local flavors of each place, extend the tourist season and create added value for local communities and producers.

At this point, it should be emphasized that, as he himself mentioned, the Greek National Tourism Organization actively supports the development of wine tourism, promoting actions that enhance the extroversion of Greek wine and the sustainable tourism development of the country. “We invite you to discover Greece through the flavors and aromas of its vineyards,” the president of the Organization noted characteristically.

It is worth noting that wine tourism has been on the rise in recent years, successfully connecting gastronomy, hospitality and culture, with dozens of visitable wineries across Greece now becoming experience destinations for Greek and foreign travelers.
