More than 300 Russian tour operators are currently visiting Crete invited by TEZ TOUR Greece Tourist Organization in a particularly important juncture created by the Russian-Turkish relations crisis.
Their reception at the “Nikos Kazantzakis”airport by representatives of TEZ TOUR and Airport administartor G.Pliakas was accompanied by music, dancing and traditional treats.
During their stay on the island until December 3 they are expected to have meetings with local institution representatives.
Tourist season extension
The specific initiative aims to promote Greece and especially Crete by showing that “visitors can see, feel and experience many other things, apart from the trivial “sun and sea”, highlighting thus, in the best possible way the potential for tourist season extension.
Therefore, most group activities during the five-day visit, are planned outside the hotel, at various places of the island, where visitors can experience the original Cretan hospitality.
First time trip
It is the first time that such an organized trip by representatives of the largest tourist agencies in Russia is carried out in Crete.
To trip was scheduled well before the eruption of the Russian-Turkish crisis, but now becomes more important, given the Russian government imposed “embargo” on tourist trips to Turkey, which is annually visited by millions of Russians.
Consequently, it is up to Greece’s tourism professionals to put the circumstances to use to the national travel industry’s advantage.
