Germans have traveled more than ever this year, spending a total of 1.67 billion days on private travel, 1.8 percent more than last year.
Each German has therefore traveled individually for an average of 20.6 days, according to Tourism Index of the German Tourism Industry Federal Association (BTW).
“For the coming year, we expect another two percent more travel days“, said BTW president Michael Frenzel.
More overnight trips
Three percent more private travel days were spent in 2015 as part of overnight trips, while day trips went down by one per cent.
Young adults between 20-34 years traveled more than 2014, (+4%) as did individuals with a net household monthly income of 2,250 euros or more (+3%) and people from one-person households (+4%).
The regions that showed more “wanderlust” than last year were Berlin (+8%) and Saxony (+6%).
