Following a poor performance in January, the negative bookings trend recorded in the German market for Turkey continues through to February, with no clear signs of recovery.
Data from major German tour operators and specialists on Turkey vacations record that losses for the current year, per tour operator, range from 10-40% .
A 10% fall is recorded by Bentour, 15% by JT Touristik and Schauinsland refers to a double-digit percentage decrease.
Other German tour operators record losses of 20-40% without disclosing more specific reduction rates.
The optimists
On the hand, Patrick Hogrefe of TUI talks of a partially positive development in bookings and JT Touristik CEO, Jasmin Taylor says that at least short-term business seem to return at satisfactory levels.
V-Tours Achim Schneider, sees step by step bookings improvement in recent days while RTI director Hicabi Ayhan, expects Turkey to recover this year, and ?ger Tours records a slightly upward trend and thinks that Turkey will continue to have opportunities this year.
This optimism is attributed to the following reasons: Spain will be full during the high season, traffic to Antalya remain on exceptional levels despite flights removal, hotel offers are better and top brands have significantly better performance than cheaper ones.
