Croatian tourism continued to grow in 2015
Out of 14.9 million tourists recorded during 2015, foreign visitors represented close to 13.2 million of the total, according to Croatia Tourism. This represents an 8% increase from 2014. Growth in number of arrivals enabled in a 6.9% increase in overnight stays in the country’s hotels.
No fewer than 13.1 million arrivals were registered on the Adriatic Coast alone, 8% more than the previous year, and 76.8 million overnight stays were recorded in hotels, a 6.7% increase. The region benefited from transfers from North Africa’s traditional clientele, reluctant to visit these destinations due to the current climate in terms of security.
Five source markets especially stood out during 2015. German visitors accounted for 16.8 million overnight stays, followed by tourists from Slovenia (8.2m), Austria (6.5m), Czech Republic (5.1m) and Italy (5m).
