Greece is the fourth most popular summer vacation destination for Russians this year, according to February booking data from Russian Yandex reservation platform analyzed by the Russian Tour Operators Union ATOR.
The number of Russians’ requests for tours in Greece increased by 42.8% compared to January and by 47% compared to February 2015. It is worth noting that in February, Ruussian tourists are actively interested in early bookings for Greek resorts. The average cost of a one week tour for two people ranges from 63,000 to 98,000 rubles, excluding accommodation.
The greatest interest for Greece came from Leningrad (+243% / 4,419 people), Moscow (+194% / 11,286 people), Kaliningrad (+158% / 171 people) and Murmansk (+147% / 174 people).
Alternative destinations to Greece were Cyprus and Spain and most customers requested tours through “Mouzenidis Travel”.
Booking summer vacations earlier than usual
In general, February 2016 was very busy with many Russians booking their summer vacations earlier than usual. Yandex users made 3.2 million bookings for travel packages, 12.4% more than in January 2016 and 3% less than in February 2015.
New entries in 10 most popular summer destinations included Cyprus and Bulgaria, while China and Dominican Republic did not make it to the top-10 list.
The most popular destination for Russians in February was Thailand (+ 52.7% demand compared to February 2015), followed by Egypt (-80% compared to last year), Vietnam (+ 53%), Greece (+47%), India (+68%), Abkhazia (+ 101%), Cyprus (+ 156.7%), Israel (+108%), Bulgaria (+182%), Italy (+ 32.3%) and Russia (-16%).
