A reduction of 4% was recorded in British summer holidays bookings for holidays this summer during March but failed to reverse the positive course of demand for the season, which so far amounted to 5% compared with last year.
According to GfK’s analysts, the fall in bookings in March is due to the fact that consumers made their reservations earlier this year and that they are concerned about terrorism. In February, an increase in bookings of about 8% was recorded compared with the corresponding month of 2015, with Easter holidays playing a supportive role.
As confirmed by the research of TNS, the issue of security on vacation abroad is the first concern of the British.
More than half said their worrying about the issue of their security prevented them from travelling to Turkey, while 55% are ‘ less likely ‘ to visit the country compared with a year ago, after the terrorist attacks in Istanbul, Ankara and the eastern regions.
TUI reported decreased bookings for Turkey, at least by 40% while Thomas Cook has made a reduction of the country’s capacity by 30%. Nevertheless, Cook has launched a campaign in cooperation with the Culture Ministry of Turkey in order to promote the all inclusive vacations in the country, as holidays with excellent value.
According to GfK, the total revenue from summer 2016 bookings remains 5% up for the period up to the end of March, compared with the corresponding period last year.
