The Association of Russian Tour Operators (ATOR) announced that Greece was the most popular foreign tourist destination for Russian during the month of May in 2016.
Sochi was their first holiday preference overall for the same period while the total of Russian holidaymakers abroad was down compared to last year due to the “forbidden” destinations of Egypt and Turkey.
After Greece, which was the top choice for May, Tunisia, Thailand, Vietnam, Bulgaria and the UAE were their preferred tourist destinations.
As a survey among Russian Tour Operators recorded, Russians were limiting their holidays, with the average in May forming around 7-8 days.
According to Yevgeny Kiselyov, head of sales for Mouzenidis Travel, the number of Russians visiting Greece and Cyprus increased by one third in May compared to last year.
Chalkidiki in Macedonia was their top choice destination in Greece, while the island of Corfu and Athens also ranked high on their list.
Russians tourists tend to seek more affordable accommodation thiw year, selecting lower rated hotels and look for ‘all inclusive’ packages.
