German hotels record unprecedented booking boom

In the past twelve months, German hotels have seen more bookings than ever before, a study finds. Since 2004, the average occupancy rate has gone up to 44 percent nationwide, fvw reports.

The German hotel industry is experiencing an unprecedented boom. Not only tourist hotspots such as Berlin which in 2015 had registered over 30 million overnight stays are affected, even much smaller cities have seen a significantly greater numbers of guests in the past twelve months, a study of corporate consultant company GHH Consult shows.

The hotel industry’s revenue has increased by 17 percent over the last ten years. The number of overnight stays moved up by 24 percent during that time. The average room price has risen to 88 euros from 80 euros in 2004. The average occupancy rate has gone up to 44 percent nationwide, Hamburg stands out with 59 percent. 18 percent of all guests came from outside of Germany.

Revenue per room (Revpar) of German hotels is 60 euros on average. Another astounding figure is the amount of new expenditures that have been made in the past twelve months: 4,4 billion euros were invested in building new hotels, which translates to a 43 percent boost compared to last year.

The Wiesebaden-based company GHH Consult has been publishing annual reports on the German hotel industry since 1987.
