UK tourism: Weak pound boosts inbound tourism +18% and domestic tourism +11% in July

The Brexit vote and the consequent weakening of the pound boosted incoming tourism in the UK during July, according to the latest official figures.

Tourism Alliance announced that the number of foreign visitors to the UK jumped 18 per cent in July compared with a year earlier. As a weaker pound makes travelling overseas more expensive for UK residents, the number of Britons opting to remain in the UK also increased by 11 per cent.

The same reports indicate that London is at the centre of a mini UK-wide tourism boom while searches for flights into the UK from Canada have risen 33 per cent and demand from the US jumped by more than a fifth in the four weeks since the June EU referendum, according to price comparison website Cheapflights.
