Departing air passengers from German airports to Greece in the first half of 2016 grew by 6.1%, according to the Federal Statistical Office of Germany. According to the same data, departures of Germans for the Greek Islands rose by 3.7%.
From January to June 2016 a total of 51.8 million air passengers departed from German airports to international or national destinations. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was an increase of 1.5 million passengers (+3.0%) from 2015.
Whereas traffic in connection with foreign countries grew by 2.9% from the corresponding period of 2015, the growth of national traffic amounted to 3.4%.
Traffic with European countries saw a growth of 3.9%. The target countries of the European Community grew more as twice as much (+6.4%) compared with services to all foreign countries which was mainly caused by the most important destination Spain (+10.9%). Turkey holding the second position saw a minus of 13.4%. The figures of the mainly by tourism services characterized airport of Antalya which covers about one third of the passenger volume in connection with Turkey dropped by 29.1%.
The value for intercontinental traffic went down by 0.5%. Asia (+3.9%) and America (+2.8%) exceeded their results from 2015. Africa saw a minus of 21.5%. In this context significant plunges were reported for Egypt (–35.8%) and Tunisia (–46.6%).
