The UK, it appears, is refusing to let this summer’s shock Brexit result mess with their travel plans, dailymail.co.uk reports:
Despite fears over an unstable pound and Britain’s changing involvement with the EU after voting to break its union, more than 90 per cent say their travel plans haven’t changed.
In a survey of 3,420 UK residents, more than 80 per cent said issues surrounding migration and terrorism haven’t put them off going abroad either.
However, the survey, conducted by Holidaysafe.co.uk, shows that more than 80 per cent of respondents would not travel to countries which have perceived terrorist threats such as Tunisia, even if it was to be declared safe by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office.
Fluctuations in the US Dollar and GBP currency rates have caused only ten per cent of those asked to change their travel plans.
Still, 75 per cent have chosen not to take a foreign holiday Autumn half term this year, preferring instead to stay home.
Countries deemed unsafe
Amber Howard, brand manager of the travel insurance specialist, said: ‘Our findings show that people are quite rightly worried about travelling to countries deemed unsafe by the FCO.
‘However, it is positive to see that terrorism and migration issues have not made travellers wary of international travel on the whole.‘
According to other research conducted over the past two years by Millennium Hotels and YouGov, age might have something to do with it.
In a survey of 4,139 adults, over a quarter of millennials (aged 18-34) who have changed their travel plans since the Brexit announcement said it was because they wanted to make the most of their visas while they last.
Only six per cent of non-millennials said the same.
In total, 66 per cent of Brits are now planning to holiday less in Europe due to the falling pound, the survey found.
Again, millennials were found to be more concerned about the currency drop (82 per cent) than non-millenials (59 per cent).
