Sojern report: 4 travel insights for the Middle East & Africa

If Sojern’s latest Global Travel Insights report shows anything, it’s the diversity among travelers globally. Perhaps the most diverse region in terms of traveler behaviors and preferences is that of the Middle East and Africa (MEA). Here are a few finds from this region:

Short Lead Times Reign

The region had some of the shortest lead times globally in Q3, with 42% searching 14 days or less ahead of traveling, and 28% searching seven days or less ahead of traveling.

The Popularity of Mid-December Departures

While European and North American travelers search for departure dates closer to the Christmas holiday, the top departure date searched among MEA travelers is mid-month, on 15 December.

Affinity for Long-Haul Travel

Middle Eastern travelers are not put off by long-haul trips. Cities in Europe and Asia-Pacific make up eight of the top 10 destinations for travel in December. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) shows a stronger preference for destinations in Asia-Pacific than the Middle East regional average.

Turkey Remains a Top Destination

While Turkey has experienced a loss in tourism this year, the Middle East is bucking the global trend with Turkey among the top 10 destination list in December.
