ITTAA conference: Israeli tourist arrivals forecast for 2017 very encouraging

The Federation of Hellenic Tourist and Travel Agencies (Fedhatta), on the occasion of the annual conference of ITTAA (The Israel Association of Travel Agencies and Consultants), held in Athens, focused on the important prospects of boosting tourist arrivals from Israel to Greece.

The secretary general of the Greek National Tourist Organisation (GNTO) Dimitris Tryfonopoulos stressed that 430,000 Israelis visited Greece in the current year while the prospects for next year are very encouraging. The Greek National Tourist Organisation has already organised targeted actions including familiarisation trips and participation in Israel’s 2017 international exhibition, Tryfonopoulos stated.

A memorandum of cooperation was also signed between Greek and Israeli businessmen in the framework of the conference with both bodies ensuring respect of Greek law N. 393/76 which specifies that travel agencies from third countries can do business in the Greek market only through a representative (Greek travel agency) or through an owned office.

This is not a formal cooperation but we are announcing the exchange of business from country to country through the travel agents. Today we are signing with our brother association the establishment of respect for professionals in both countries”, fedHATTA’s president, Lysandros Tsilidis, announced during a press conference and stressed that the travel agents are the experts to divert the customers on where to go and where to stay.

Last January, Greek Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura and her Israeli counterpart Yariv Levin signed a memorandum of cooperation to strengthen tourism ties between the two countries with joint initiatives.
