Greece is planning another special advertising campaign this year to promote tourism on Kos, Lesbos, Samos and small nearby islands fvw reports.
Due to publicity surrounding refugees, the islands close to the Turkish coast did not profit as much as the rest of the country last year from an overall rise in demand for Greece.
Tourism minister Elena Kountoura announced there would again be special advertising for the islands this year following the success of a similar campaign last year. Overall, she expects another record year for Greece tourism.
At the same time, the number of Germans visiting Turkey slumped by about a third to nearly 3.8 million between January and November last year, according to the country’s tourism ministry. This was about 1.7 million fewer visitors than over the same period of 2015. However, Germany remained the country’s top source market. The overall number of foreign tourists visiting Turkey slumped by 31% to 24.1 million in the first 11 months, according to preliminary figures.
