Greek ministers discuss tourism and investments with new Japanese ambassador

The prospect of boosting Greek exports of high added value products to Japan as well as the possibility of Japanese investments in Greece, particularly in energy, construction, ports and shipping, and hydroplanes were discussed at a meeting between Economy Minister Dimitris Papadimitriou and the newly appointed ambassador of Japan to Greece, Yasuhiro Shimizu, on Wednesday.

Papadimitriou presented Greece’s comparative advantages and the investing opportunities which, as he noted, constitute an incentive for the further improvement and widening of the two countries economic relations.

The minister stressed the need the cooperation between the two countries, via the organisation Enterprise Greece and the embassies as well as through business missions, to strengthen in order all the investing opportunities offered by Greece to be examined.

Furthermore, Greek Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura recently discussed ways to boost bilateral tourism cooperation between the two countries with the Ambassador.

Their meeting focused  the development of common synergies to further increase tourism flows towards Greece. Arrivals from Japan to Greece were negatively affected due to the suspension of direct flights between the two countries a few years ago and after the Greek National Tourism Organization (EOT) decided to close its branch in the Japanese capital.

Ways to promote Greece in Japan as an attractive all year round destination and implement additional activities to attract more Japanese visitors to Greece as well as opportunities for new investments in the tourism sector were also discussed.
