President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopios Pavlopoulos on Friday received Serb Culture and Information Minister Vladan Vukosavljevic at the presidential mansion in Athens, underlining Greece’s support for Serbia’s European perspective.
Receiving the Serb minister, the president underlined that the Balkans were “an integral part, an equal part, of the European Union and European culture,” while emphasizing that this required the respect, by all sides, of international and European law.
Pavlopoulos said Greece’s full and unreserved support of the accession process for Serbia, noting that the country had made very significant progress. Greece was ready to contribute in this direction and would be happy to see Serbia added to EU member-states, he added.
Vukosavljevic, on his part, highlighted the importance of the Balkans in the history of Europe, noting that Europe would be very different without Greece’s influence, and expressed Serbia’s desire to join Greece in the ranks of the EU “to continue for the good of Europe generally.”
The two countries’ cooperation in culture was very good, he concluded, without this meaning that it could not be further improved on and invested in.
