Deputy Foreign Minister for Overseas Greeks Terens Quick met with the vice president of the Greek community in Malawi Christos Skordis, at the Foreign ministry in Lilongwe, the capital where the community has the church of Agios Nektarios, ANA reports.
Malawi has 120 residents of Greek origin – including third-generation children – who are mostly involved in tobacco cultivation and trade. The majority originate from the North Aegean island of Limnos. Diplomatically, Malawi belongs to the jurisdiction of the Greek embassy in Harare, Zimbabwe.
Skordis told Quick that their main concern is keeping their Greek language, and asked for a digital language-learning program and access to the national broadcaster ERT, to see films, programs and news.
