A complete comeback in tourism has been achieved in 2017 by Turkey with international arrivals from Greece on the rise, according to Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
International arrivals of tourists for the whole year increased by 27.8% to 32.4 million from 25.3 million in 2016, surpassing the respective figures for Greece.
It is noteworthy that these arrivals do not include Turks who live abroad but decided to have their holiday in their native country.
If these Turks are added, the number of arrivals in the country reaches 38 million.
On the contrary, Greece calculates the arrivals of Greeks living abroad and visiting their country of origin on an annual basis.
It is worth noting that during the last nine months of 2017 Turkey achieved high double digit rates of increase in arrivals.
Only in December arrivals reached 1.7 million, showing an increase of 30.8%.
Regarding markets of origin, the most impressive increase was registered by Russian tourists.
In total, the number of Russian visitors increased by 444.35% to more than 4.7 million.
