An impressive increase of 60% is recorded in arrivals of German tourists to Greece during the last five years.
The German market is currently the biggest for Greek tourism, with arrivals in 2017 reaching 3.7 million, from about 2.3 million in 2013.
According to leading tourism media platform in Germany fvw’s data, that Mr. Evangelos Georgiou, Manager of Media Relations International Markets / Southern Europe of TUI posted on twitter, the growth of German tourist arrivals to Greece between 2013 to 2017 is as follows:
- 2017 3,700.000 +18.3% (compared to the previous year)
- 2016 3.130.000 +11.1%
- 2015 2.810.349 +14.3%
- 2014 2.459.228 + 8.5%
- 2013 2.267.546 +7.5%
In the same 5 years international arrivals in Greece from around 18 million in 2013 rose to 27.3 million last year.
The progress of international arrivals in those five years, according to fvw, is as follows:
- 2017 27,300,000 + 10% (compared to the previous year)
- 2016 24,800,000 + 5,1%
- 2015 23,599,453 + 7,1%
- 2014 22,033,463 + 23%
- 2013 17.919.580 + 15.5%
Tourism supports the Greek economy and employment
Georgiou points out the positive impact of tourism on the Greek economy, highlighting the high potential for further development. He also points out that:
- One in five euros of gross value added in Greece comes from tourism, which provides a total of 900,000 jobs in our country, of which 50,000 were created in 2017.
- Greece is the winner of tourism in 2017. This benefits people, the economy and, above all, the labor market. Only this year, tourism will provide an income for 54,000 additional employees.
- The Greek economy returned to growth after nine years of recession. It is no coincidence that the recovery coincides with a new record year in tourism. Greece welcomes over 25 million holidaymakers every year.
- Greece is one of the world’s top destinations and one of the favorites for TUI guests.
