Tourist arrivals in Cyprus grow by 8.2% in June 2018: New record

On the basis of the results of the Passengers Survey, arrivals of tourists in Cyprus reached 511.073 in June 2018 compared to 472.450 in June 2017, recording an increase of 8,2%. June 2018 had the highest volume of tourist arrivals ever recorded in the island during the specific month.

For the period of January – June 2018 arrivals of tourists totaled 1.645.149 compared to 1.463.206 in the corresponding period of 2017, recording an increase of 12,4% and outnumbering the total arrivals ever recorded in Cyprus during the first six months of the year

Analysis of changes

Tourist arrivals from the United Kingdom increased by 9,9% in June 2018 compared to June 2017 while an increase of 20,2% was recorded for tourists from Sweden. Increases were also recorded from other important tourist markets, such as Greece (4,7%) and Poland (36,4%). Contrary to that, a decrease of 5,1% in tourist arrivals from Russia, 15,1% decrease from Israel and 11,3% decrease from Germany were recorded. 

Main countries

The United Kingdom constitutes the main source of tourism for Cyprus for June 2018, with a proportion of 32,4% while arrivals from Russia comprise 24,1% of total arrivals, from Sweden 5,0%  and from Israel 4,7%.

Purpose of visit

For a percentage of 86,4% of tourists, the purpose of their trip in June 2018 was holidays, for 8,7% visit to friends and relatives and for 4,9% business
