Antalya is the most popular destination for Germans who book holidays online, lying well ahead of Majorca, according to new figures published by fvw.com
Online bookings for vacations on the Turkish Riviera are up by 24% so far this year, according to figures from leading reservations IT provider Traveltainment, the German association for online travel sales (VIR) said this week. Majorca has dropped back to second place.
Third-placed Hurghada is also rising strongly with a 62% rise in online bookings this year, the association said. Other popular destinations for Germans booking through the internet include Rhodes, Crete, the Canaries and Bulgaria.
The Traveltainment numbers cover online bookings of package holidays and last-minute trips between June 22, 2017, and July 20, 2018 for departures between June 22 and September 10 this year.
Meanwhile, Antalya and Hurghada are also the top winners for all bookings made through travel agents and online this year, according to the latest Traveltainment figures for destination airports.
Bookings to Antalya increased by 25% in July after an 11% drop in June and high growth rates over the first four months of 2018. The Turkish Riviera gateway was the largest single destination with 29% of all bookings for the top ten destination airports, ahead of Palma (23%).
Similarly, Hurghada advanced by as much as 51% in July, continuing the high double-digit growth rates seen in the first half-year for the main Red Sea airport. The southern Egyptian resort of Marsa Alam also grew by 5% last month.
All other top destination airports, including Palma, the Canaries and Greece, registered fewer bookings in July, according to Traveltainment figures. For Majorca this was the seventh consecutive month with fewer bookings than last year and the sixth month in a row for the Canaries.
The monthly data cover package holiday and last-minute bookings through Traveltainment’s market-leading travel agency and OTA reservation systems.
