Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Markos Bolaris paid a visit to the area of Trabzon at the Black Sea region of Turkey on Monday to attend the inauguration of a center issuing Turkish nationals with visas to Greece, and to meet with local authorities, ΑΝΑ reports
According to diplomatic sources, Bolaris was given a tour by a high-level official of the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism at the famed Greek Orthodox monastery of Panagia Soumela, a historic point of reference for Greeks abroad, and was briefed on the process of restoration the site has been undergoing during the last five years.
The director-general of the Turkish Ministry announced the gates of the monastery will open on May 18 to allow visitors at least a peek from the top, although the full restoration of the interior will take longer.
