Issues relating to the migratory influx of refugees in the Mediterranean and Greece’s desire to attract Italian investments were discussed at a Wednesday meeting between Alternate Foreign Affairs Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis and Italy’s Ambassador to Greece Efisio Luigi Marras, ANA reports.
Varvitsiotis highlighted the refugee crisis as a key issue affecting both countries. Both men agreed to tackle the increased migration flows across both eastern and western Mediterranean waters, and also emphasized the European aspect of the issue. The Greek minister also referred to Greek positions on the distribution of EU’s Cohesion Policy funds.
The two officials agreed on the need to hold the 2nd Greece-Italy Intergovernmental Summit in the near future.
