EU sanctions for illegal Turkish drilling in the eastern Mediterranean

European Union’s Foreign Affairs Council, which takes place today in Brussels, is expected to decide on sanctions against individuals and companies involved in illegal Turkish drilling in the eastern Mediterranean, int.ert.gr reports.

Ankara is getting a clear message from the EU that it cannot play with the Law of the Sea, chairman of the constitutional review committee Euripides Stylianidis, noted in a radio interview on ERT’s first program.

The Republic of Cyprus has made tranquil moves and has created alliances. We need to strengthen the role of Greece and Cyprus in the region, step by step Mr. Stylianidis pointed out. Turkey needs to respect its obligations to the international community, while the rest of the European Union countries have to accept their responsibilities, said Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, referring to the immigration issue.
