NICOSIA – While most companies have been shut down in Cyprus to try to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 Coronavirus, three workers in essential businesses allowed to be open tested positive and 30 other cases were found in distribution lines.
That brought the total to 695 cases on Cyprus, among the lowest in the world, the 33 new cases found after 655 tests, including 13 who were contacts of known cases and 16 workers in a bakery production facility in Aradippou, where 10 more workers tested positive earlier.
“We are aware that we may have gone past the peak of the curve,” Dr. Marios Loizou said, “but we also know that when the virus was in its early stages it sped up very quickly, but when it slows down, it does so gradually. We, therefore, have a long way ahead,” reported Kathimerini.
Loizou said that the island’s coronavirus center in Famagusta was treating 23 coronavirus patients, two of which were in the Intensive Care Unit. Also on life support are another nine patients, three of whom were in the Limassol General ICU and six in the Nicosia hospital ICU.
