The Minister of Tourism, Haris Theocharis, ruled out any possibility that the vaccination certificate would be a condition for someone to travel to Greece, greekcitytimes.com reports.
Speaking on SKAI, nevertheless, the minister noted that both the vaccination certificate, for which a big issue has been raised regarding the protection of personal data and the rapid tests, which are fast, efficient, and cheaper, are two “tools” to open Greece this summer.
At the same time, he referred to the proposal by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to the Commission, stressing that it aims to activate Europe to move in one direction on this issue.
“Tests will be performed on those who have not been vaccinated, but it remains to be seen based on the decisions of the committee whether they will be performed on everyone,” noted Theocharis.
For the time being, yet, he clarified that those who have a vaccination certificate will pass freely as “we do not need to waste resources on cases that do not pose a risk.”
Concluding, the minister did not hide his optimism that this summer will be better for tourism, but underlined that “consumer habits have changed and there is health uncertainty.”
