ILO approves Cyprus resolution calling for the coronavirus inoculation of seafarers

A resolution submitted by the Government of Cyprus to the International Labour Organisation, calling for the inoculation against COVID-19 of seafarers in their country of residence was approved by the ILO, CNA reports.

The resolution said that it notes with great concern the threat posed to human health by COVID-19, recognises the significance of maritime transport and the role of seafarers as keyworkers and stresses the challenging living and working conditions at sea faced by seafarers due to COVID-19.

The resolution acknowledges the difficulties with the logistics of the vaccination programme in the countries of origin or residence of seafarers along with the transport restrictions, availability of approved or authorized vaccines, the two-stage vaccination process, and the subsequent time required for a seafarer to be considered as inoculated.
