Greece is expected to see an increase in Israeli tourists in the near future as the Secretary General of the Greek National Tourist Organisation (GNTO), Dimitris Fragakis, is currently in Tel Aviv to meet with industry players at the IMTM tourist exhibition, greekcitytimes.com reports.
Among others, Fragakis had meetings with representatives of airlines and tour operators such as Arkia, TUS, Sundor, and WTC.
During the meetings, Fragakis set Greece’s strategic goals for the next period and asked for their help for the extension of the presence of Israeli visitors in Greece.
Fragakis will also meet with the leadership of the historic Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball team in order to discuss the continuation of the collaboration with the GNTO.
The Secretary General of the GNTO, accompanied by the Greek ambassador Kyriakos Loukakis and officials of the financial department of the Greek embassy, toured the organization’s stand.
In a statement, the head of the GNTO noted that: “The Israeli market is extremely important for our country. The year 2022 closed with an overall increase in arrivals from Israel compared to 2019. Especially in Athens, the increase reached 19% compared to 2019.”
“At the same time, there was also an increase in trips to less popular destinations within our country, which is a demand for our tourism. The Israeli market has significant growth prospects and at GNTO we make sure to develop them with the appropriate partnerships,” he stressed.
