Tourism cooperation between Greece and Saudi Arabia announced

The cooperation between Greece and Saudi Arabia in key areas of politics and economy was agreed upon at the first Supreme Council for Strategic Cooperation between the two countries, which met at the Al Ulla governorate under the joint chairmanship of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

The relations and bilateral cooperation between Greece and Saudi Arabia have been upgraded to strategic, following the signing, in the summer of 2022, of the agreement establishing the Supreme Council for Strategic Cooperation.

The Minister of Tourism, Ms. Olga Kefalogianni, also participates in the work of the Supreme Council, given that the Tourism Committee is one of the seven Committees of the Council. Within the framework of the work of the Tourism Committee, a set of initiatives in the tourism sector was agreed between the two sides, to implement the Joint Action Plan 2024-2026.

The aim is to facilitate and encourage cooperation between representatives of the private sector of the two countries in joint initiatives, such as organizing a workshop in 2025 with the participation of travel agents from the two countries, exploring the possibility of organizing a joint advertising campaign by airlines to increase tourism demand and a program to transfer employees to hotels.

All these initiatives are expected to act as a springboard for tourism relations between the two countries, giving significant further impetus to their bilateral cooperation. It should be noted that tourism cooperation between the two countries has exploded in recent years.

Last June, the Minister of Tourism, Ms. Kefalogianni, and the Minister of Tourism of Saudi Arabia, Ahmed Al-Khateeb, signed in Barcelona, ??on the sidelines of the work of the Executive Board of the United Nations World Tourism Organization, a bilateral Joint Action Plan for cooperation in the tourism sector for the period 2024-2026, with an emphasis on the areas of sustainable and green tourism, tourism education, digitalization, special forms of tourism, investment promotion, air connectivity and cooperation between the two countries at a multilateral level.
