The Region of Crete participated in the international tourism exhibition FITUR 2025, which was held at the IFEMA exhibition center in Madrid from January 22 to 26. This is the largest tourism exhibition in Spain and is the gateway to the tourism market of Latin American countries. More than 9,500 exhibitors from 156 countries participated in this year’s 45th edition of FITUR, which attracted 255,000 visitors, of which 155,000 were professionals.
As part of its participation, the Region of Crete held a series of business meetings with major tour operators such as Viajes el Corte Ingles, major media outlets such as El Pais, as well as a number of tourism professionals, who showed particular interest in Crete. Visitors to the Crete pavilion were informed about the island’s comparative advantages and the sights and activities that Crete offers 365 days a year.
Crete welcomes visitors from both Spain and Latin American countries every year, mainly during the high season and many visit the island as part of a cruise, however, there was increased interest in multi-day visits at the beginning of the season. According to the Hellenic-Spanish Chamber, the prospects for strengthening the tourist wave to Greece and Crete are particularly promising.
The Region of Crete was represented by the Head of the Tourism Directorate of the Region of Crete, Nikos Alexakis, and the Head of the Tourism Department of the Heraklion Prefecture, Eleni Vougioukalaki.
The Deputy Regional Governor for Tourism, Dr. Kyriakos Kotsoglou stated about the participation in the exhibition:
“Fitur is an exhibition that now extends far beyond the Spanish market, it has evolved as a link between Europe and Latin America, while at the same time, it could be described as the most digital exhibition in Europe. In this way, it is now one of the “exchanges” of Tourism, showing the way to other countries, and will be one of the exhibitions that Crete will invest in in the coming years, Everywhere!”
