Greece was named the “Best Travel Destination in the World” for 2025 at the Grand Travel Awards (GTA) in Finland.
The Greek award was received by Ms. Natalia-M. Karageorgou, Ambassador of Greece in Helsinki, and Ms. Eftychia-Christina Aivalioti, Head of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) Foreign Service responsible for the Nordic and Baltic countries.
The awards ceremony was held for the first time in Helsinki on 2 June 2025 and brought together 250 travel professionals from all over the country.
The Grand Travel Awards are a major recognition among travel industry professionals. They were first held in Sweden in 1992 and have since been established in Norway and Denmark.
Now Finland is joining this tradition, focusing on transparency, service comparison, and, above all, the respondents’ intention to revisit the specific destination.
In the category of “Best Travel Destination in the World” for 2025, Spain and Italy were co-nominated.
Greece has been in first place among Finns’ preferences in recent years, with arrivals consistently exceeding 220,000 in 2024 and 2023. (Source: SMAL: Association of the Finnish Travel Industry).
The award as the “Best Travel Destination in the World” confirms once again the increased demand and undiminished interest of the Finnish market for Greece, ranking it first among destinations worldwide.
