With Italian travelers now the largest inbound tourism market for Karpathos, the Italian National Tourist Office organized a fam trip to the island from June 22 to 25 for representatives of six tourist agencies from Naples and a journalist from a major tourist newspaper in the country.

The aim of the fam trip, which was carried out in collaboration with the Municipality of Karpathos, was to strengthen the presence of the destination in the Italian market, as well as to support the direct Naples-Karpathos connections by the airline Volotea.

During their stay on the island, the Italian delegation visited traditional settlements such as Olympos, Menetes and Aperi and many beaches on the island. The program also included a tour of the network of trails on the island (hiking tourism), an introduction to experiential forms of tourism linked to the unique authenticity of the daily life of the inhabitants, and a tasting of local dishes.

In the context of the visit, meetings were also held with the mayor of the island, Michalis Fellouzis, and local tourism professionals, during which the possibilities for further cooperation between the two sides and trends in the Italian tourism market were discussed.

A common finding was that the steady increase in arrivals of Italian travelers to Karpathos highlights the critical importance of its continuous promotion in this market, so that it remains an attractive and constantly growing destination.
