Meeting in Chania of Regional Governors with Consul General of GB in Greece and Cyprus

The Deputy Regional Governor of Civil Protection of Crete, Giorgos Tsapakos, had an introductory meeting with the Consul General of Great Britain in Greece and Cyprus, Alexandra Gregory, in his office in Chania.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Regional Governor of Tourism & E-Government, Kyriakos Kotsoglou and the Vice Consul of Great Britain in Crete, Aristea Hourdaki. The main issues of the discussion were Civil Protection, the connection between tourism and security, as well as the actions and projects implemented by the Region of Crete to protect both the residents and visitors of the island.

The Deputy Regional Governor for Civil Protection stressed that “security is a key pillar of development and cooperation with institutional bodies further strengthens the joint effort for a safe and resilient Crete in the face of challenges”.

He pointed out that this meeting is the beginning of a constructive cooperation with the common goal of informing and ensuring a safe stay for visitors from Great Britain on the island.

The Deputy Regional Governor for Tourism stated that “Great Britain, together with Germany, are the two main countries – markets supporting Crete, at the tourist level. British visitors are approaching 1,000,000 in Crete, while in recent years they have been the first market in the Chania Regional Municipality. Thus, our relations with the British Embassy and the British Consulate have been excellent throughout time, since we are united by the common goal of developing both sides at every level of cooperation”.
