Turkish visitors to Chios are expected to exceed 150,000, according to Kostas Moundros, president of the Chios Tourism Organization, speaking to Tornos News on the occasion of the island’s organized participation in the international travel fair Travel Turkey Izmir, taking place in Izmir until December 5, 2025. He points out that the Turkish market has now become one of the most stable and dynamic pillars for the destination, with a clear prospect for further growth.
It should be noted that today’s figures bear no comparison to 2008, when arrivals from Turkey did not exceed 10,000. “We are talking about a spectacular change that reflects the true potential of the island,” Mr. Moundros notes, adding that the figure of 150,000 visitors could increase even further.
At the same time, the president emphasizes that Chios anticipates that the modernization of the airport “will allow the island to expand into other markets, creating valuable diversification in incoming tourism demand.”
Chios’s presence at Travel Turkey Izmir has exactly this purpose. The mission, organized by the Chios Chamber of Commerce and the Municipality of Chios, acts as a catalyst for further boosting the island’s outward-looking approach, while also highlighting the strong interest of the Turkish public in a destination with historical depth, cultural cohesion, and experiences not easily found elsewhere.
It should also be noted that the fair is one of the most important professional events in the region, attracting tour operators, travel agencies, and institutional representatives seeking new reliable partners. Chios consistently promotes its brand, aiming to capitalize on the impressive growth of Turkish visitor flows and to create a stable framework of collaborations that will enhance its tourism identity.
Supporting this, the scheduled professional meetings in Izmir are expected to provide a clearer picture of new agreements that can proceed immediately, confirming that Chios is now entering a new phase of tourism maturity, with the Turkish market serving as the most tangible indicator of this progress.
