China’s ambassador to Greece, Zhang Qiyue, detailed Beijing’s ambitious “Belt & Road” initiative on Tuesday, during an event at the Piraeus commercial and industrial chamber of commerce, with the latter saying 60 billion USD already sunk into investments, naftemporiki.gr reports.
He was joined by Professor Wu Xiaoqui, the vice-president of the Renmin University in China, as well as Prof. Wang Wen, representing the Chongyang Institute of Economics Studies.
According to data presented in Piraeus, since the commencement of the initiative, trade between China and cooperating states has reached a value of four trillion USD.
Piraeus comprises the focal point of Chinese direct investment in Greece, as Shanghai-based shipping and port management multinational Cosco bought a majority stake of the Piraeus Port Authority (PPA) in August 2016 and assumed its control.
