Crete 2025: Four Major Hotel Investments Underway

The Cretan hospitality market is witnessing renewed dynamism with four significant hotel investments at various stages of development, spanning Georgioupoli, Rethymno, Lasithi, and Elounda. Greek groups are investing in mid- to high-end units, emphasizing quality, organized infrastructure, and in some cases collaboration with international brands.

1. Tsiledakis Group – New 4-star Hotel in Georgioupoli

Location: Chortatsiana, Apokoronas, Chania

Size: 243 beds, 150 rooms, 7 buildings, total built area 5,308 m² on a 27,044 m² plot

Status: Environmental Impact Study under public consultation

Operation: Seasonal (April–October), employing ~100 staff

Notes: The project may operate under an international brand. Tsiledakis Group already has a strong presence in Georgioupoli with Corissia Hotels & Resorts, and strategic collaborations with Hilton.

2. Atali Hotels – New 4-star Unit in Bali, Rethymno

Location: Fournokefalos, outside Bali village

Size: 298 beds, 101 rooms, 17 buildings, plus central facilities (430 m²) including reception, spa, gym, shops

Existing Features: Aqua park (~600 m²) with pools, slides, two-story pool bar; surrounding area includes sports courts and green zones

Status: Project revised after expanding site from 14.4 to 21.4 acres; previously approved in 2018 but delayed due to regulatory changes

Notes: Builds on existing Atali Grand Resort in Bali

3. Metaxa Hospitality Group – Luxury Integrated Resort in Lasithi

Project: Cape Tholos

Investment: €200 million

Size: 1,014 beds on >1,200 acres, classified as a strategic investment

Facilities: Luxury hotel, wellness center, dining spaces, sports complex, 58 furnished tourist residences

Status: Positive recommendation on Environmental Impact Study by Crete Region

4. Phaea – Repositioning in Elounda under Rosewood Brand

Scope: Integration and upgrade of existing Blue Palace and Argo units

Size: 631 beds

Brand: Rosewood Hotels & Resorts

Status: Approved by Ministry of Culture for modified architectural plan

Goal: Reposition the resort in the international luxury hospitality market by 2026
