More and more Turks buy houses in Greece after the failed military coup

The failed July coup in Turkey seems to raise interest by Turkish citizens to buy real estate property in Greece, according to S?ddeutsche Zeitung.

In an rticle entitled “More and more Turks buy houses in Greece,” the Munich newspaper comments: “The attempted coup in Turkey brought unexpected clientele for Greek real estate dealers. When a house or apartment in Greece changes ownership, the buyer seems to originate more often from Turkey. There are no official figures, but real estate marketers confirm the phenomenon.”

The past two years we had a massive increase of 1,000% in Turkish buyers” says Vassilis Axarlis, owner of an Athenian Real Estate company and adds: ” A house in Greece is a gateway to Europe. Whoever buys in Greece properties worth at least 250,000 euros, may receive a residence permit in the country. This is valid for five years and, if the property is not sold, it may be renewed without limitation.”

S?ddeutsche Zeitung notes that this specific law was passed in 2013 by the ruling New Democracy and PASOK coalition in an effort to attract investors.
