2025 application platform for tax discount on homes insured against catastrophes opens

Home owners whose houses have been insured against earthquakes, fire, and flooding will be able to apply for a discount in real estate tax (ENFIA) as of Wednesday (Jan. 15), ANA reports.

The reduction of a maximum 20% on the value of the house goes into effect in 2025 and will affect all future home insurance contracts, according to a decision by Deputy National Economy and Finance Minister Christos Dimas (A.1002/2025).

– Specifically, homes worth up to 500,000 euros that have been insured for at least a year will receive a 20% discount on their property tax (ENFIA) as of 2025.

– Homes worth over 500,000 euros that have been insured for at least a year will receive a 10% discount on their property tax as of  2025, under the same conditions as those above.

– Homes insured for less than a year but for at least three months will receive a proportional property tax reduction.

The process for the tax reduction is as follows:

1. Insurance companies have sent contracts including insurance against earthquake, fire, and flooding to the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) by October 1, 2024. All contracts must have been valid within 2024.

2. Taxpayers apply for property tax (ENFIA) reduction, and any amendments or corrections to their tax forms, by February 14 through the myaade.gov.gr portal (Applications > Popular Applications > myPROPERTY > ENFIA reduction for insured homes, all in Greek).

3. Insurance companies verify data by February 28.

4. AADE confirms conditions are met for claims and a discount is provided to taxpayers.
