FedHATTA: Strategic cooperation to strengthen tourism flows between Greece and Cuba

The opening of new channels of cooperation between the Greek and Cuban tourism markets was set in motion through a working meeting held by the Federation of Hellenic Associations of Travel & Tourist Agencies (FedHATTA) with the diplomatic and tourism delegation of Cuba.

Specifically, the President of FedHATTA, Mr. Lysandros Tsilidis, met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Greece, Mr. Aramis Fuente Hernández, and the Tourism Affairs Advisor, Ms. Yanet Mora Ferguson, with the aim of further developing cooperation between travel agencies in Greece and Cuba, promoting Cuban destinations in the Greek market, and expanding tourism flows between the two countries. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Efthymios Varentzakis, representative of Cubana de Aviación in Greece.

The meeting forms part of an already established cooperative relationship, as both the Ambassador and the head of Cuba’s tourism sector have previously participated in presentations of the country to the Greek market, in collaboration with FedHATTA and Greek travel agencies.

The main topic of discussion was the expansion of Cuba’s presence in the Greek travel market, with an emphasis on increasing both organized travel and individual travel packages. As noted, there is significant potential for growth, as trips and group excursions are already being organized throughout the year by agencies specializing in long-haul destinations, while interest is also being recorded from individual travelers.

Within this framework, the Cuban side is preparing specific cooperation proposals, as well as informational and promotional material, which will be distributed to Greek travel agencies in order to strengthen the promotion of Cuba and enrich the available content for destination marketing.

Special reference was also made to the dynamics of summer holidays in Cuba, with emphasis on hotel infrastructure and the services offered, as well as on the strategy to attract both organized groups and individual travelers from Greece.

Following the meeting, the President of the Federation, Mr. Lysandros Tsilidis, stated:

“Cuba is a destination with a strong identity and significant prospects for the Greek market, while at the same time there is scope for further strengthening travel flows in both directions.
The Federation actively supports collaborations that bring travel agencies of the two countries closer together, creating the conditions both for increasing travel by Greeks to Cuba and for highlighting Greece as an attractive destination for Cuban travelers.
Through targeted actions, the exchange of know-how, and enhanced promotion, we can develop sustainable and high-quality travel products with a year-round perspective.”
