Cosmote owns the largest fiber optics network in Greece, with a length of 43,000 km, OTE Group announced on Thursday.
In a press statement, OTE noted the group was implementing the largest project of the last few decades for upgrading telecoms infrastructure in the country, by installing fiber optics throughout Greece.
“For years, we have invested in fiber optics networks as a necessary condition for the country’s digital growth and to achieve its goals in broadband. I am proud of OTE Group’s people, who managed to bring fiber optics to every corner of the country in a record time, adhering to our vision to build a better world with technology,” Mihalis Tsamaz, chairman and CEO of the Group stressed.
OTE added it managed to raise the number of cabins connected with fiber optics to almost 13,000 in a period of only eight months, while another 3,000 cabins are about to be upgraded soon. Around 2.9 million households and enterprises in 650 cities and towns throughout Greece are expected to have access to Cosmote’s network for “even faster internet speeds” after completion of the project.
